Some general guidelines to keep your laptop in working condition

  • Don’t put heavy stuff on the screen or it will crack
  • Don’t put papers or stuff on the keyboard and close the lid or it will crack.
  • Watch the power cords – if you trip over the cord it can make the laptop fall on the ground and be damaged.
  • Don’t put drinks in the backpack with the laptop – if the lid is not screwed on tight it can leak and ruin the computer.
  • Don’t spill liquid on the laptop
  • Don’t expose laptop to extreme heat or cold (like in a car in July)
  • Don’t drop the backpack on the floor with laptop inside
  • Be careful about transporting or bumping laptop when power cord or flash drives are plugged in – If these are bumped or bent it can damage logic board (mother board) which is an expensive repair.
  • Don’t shut down improperly or you can lose data
  • Back up all important data because your hard drive can fail at any time with no warning signs
  • Don’t keep important data on just a flash drive, it can fail at any time also.
  • How to clean screen or keyboard safely - don’t spray cleaner on the laptop, spray it on a soft cloth then wipe it gently – when powered off.
